Visit the Burela netmakers warehouse

The Burela netmakers explain their work, anecdotes about marine life, fishing gears and their history, including a visit to a small workshop. The bay is a workplace with an exhibition of seafaring gears and trades. You can watch and buy items always with a seafaring theme made by the netmakers (bracelets, necklaces, keyrings, etc.), or which incorporate the typical fishing gear knots.

Building and repairing wooden boats.

After learning the historical importance of San Cibrao shipbuilding, we will learn the naval carpenter’s trade at the hands of a professional, following the building process of a wooden boat, taking into account the tools used as well as the types of wood most commonly used.

O Fieital Netmakers

The netmakers will teach us how to make, assemble and repair fishing gears like purse seine, longline and other minor fishing gears. You can have guided visits through dock installations divided into two areas: northern dock where the fish market and ice factory are; and the southern dock with the net warehouse and sailors’ cabins are. You will also learn how to make bracelets and necklaces of thread.

Making and reparing of nets

 These professionals will show us how the nets are manufactured and how to distinguish the fishing gears used according to the fish that we pretend to catch. There is also a small museum of old nets.

‘Paséate con Nós’ - Fish trap making

 This activity allows to travel back in time to Boiro’s traditions and craft work of the past. We will see how to make a wooden fish trap, a fishing gear used to catch fish and shellfish. They will also explain the manufacture of other kinds of fish traps and how they are used in this area.

‘Paséate con nós’. The shipyard. Naval carpentry

 We will have the opportunity to visit a traditional wooden shipyard by at the hands of an experienced carpenter. He will explain how a boat is built from all his experience, furthermore, we will encounter frames of large wooden boats under construction.
