In Foz, a former whaling port, the sea becomes a beach: A Rapadoira, Llas, Peizás, Arealonga... Almost 15 km of beaches with fine white sand mark this estuary. Its marshlands are home to one of the largest marine bird colonies of northwest Spain, watched from above by seagulls, shearwaters and gannets that nest in the neighbouring cliffs. The Foz estuary is a natural paradise not just for birds, but also for those who love water sports: surf, windsurf, kite, canoeing or sailing.

Yesterday's whale hunters are today's wave hunters; surfers who enjoy the atmosphere of summer nights.

At a distance of 5 km from Foz is Spain's oldest  cathedral and the first that was built in southern Europe: San Martiño de Mondoñedo, dating from the 6th century and transformed between the 10th and 13th centuries.
