Description

The museum, located on a cabicastro, with a unique archaeological deposit, surrounded by Roman villas devoted to fish salting, utilised the remains of the previous construction to materialise its impressive architecture. You can visit the remains of the hill fort. Similarly, the museum’s first room has free public access and operates like a jetty. The permanent exhibition is divided into two sections. The first, takes you on a complete journey through the history of the fishing industry in Galicia based on the fishing, conservation and commercialisation of its resources. The second section provides a look at the future of Galician fishing, explains the fishing methods and talks about the oceanographic, biological, geological and climatic causes that condition the presence of fishing zones. The star pieces of the exhibition are an aquarium in which the 3 main ecosystems of the Galician estuaries are reproduced and a large-scale model of a mussel bed.
