The Parish Church of Santa María is the most important monument in the municipality of Castrelo de Miño. It is constructed on a "castro" (Celtic settlement) and merges Romanesque and Baroque elements. The apse, decorated with various motifs, has an interesting gable-end with modillions. The tower is unusually positioned. This circumstance distinguishes this church from the others in the region and reveals a curious similarity with the Romanesque style of Catalonia and Lombardy. The nave is Baroque. 16th century murals are preserved inside.
In these we can distinguish scenes from the Final Judgement, Christ before Pilate, the Flagellation and the Road to the Calvary.
We have to add beautiful views of a large part of the O Ribeiro region to its artistic value, thanks to its privileged position high above the Miño.
