A MIÑA VIAXE
The mollusc that best represents the seaside town of O Carril, in Vilagarcía de Arousa, is the star of this culinary event held on the Sunday following 16 August, the day of the festivities of the patron saint of Vilagarcía de Arousa, St. Roch.
Foodies also have the chance to take part in a competition giving prizes for the best recipes that use clams as the main ingredient. The prizes are the Golden and Silver Clam, and the awards for the youngest parquista (clam farmer) and honorary parquista.
Over the weekend you can sample clams grown in the sandbanks of O Carril in a wide range of dishes, including a la marinera style and served with albariño wine.
The event is held on the Alameda avenue, next to the fish market, with views over the isle of Cortegada in the Atlantic Islands National Park. The Clam Festival has been held since 1991.
