Galicia a un paso de ti

Exhibition of the Galician photographer Adolfo Enríquez.

Adolfo Enríquez from Porto do Son, 1965, started out in photography at the age of 14, by chance, when his father brought home a Yashica 35 that he had found abandoned. Since then, photography has been a constant presence in Adolfo’s life. He is passionate about the natural settings of Galicia. A passion that has been captured in guides and travel magazines.

Galicia is an Atlantic land that has exerted a fascinating power of attraction for centuries. It is here where ancient civilisations placed the end of the world, in Finisterrae. And it is its capital, Santiago de Compostela, that is the final destination for thousands of pilgrims who travel the Camino de Santiago.

Today, Galicia is a world that combines tradition and modernity in harmonious balance. A green country at the edge of a blue sea. A tourist destination with a mild climate, splendid beaches, inland regions bathed by a thousand rivers, a landscape with history and, most importantly, an open and dreamy people.

A land with beautiful nature as shown by its six natural parks and the Atlantic Islands National Park, which is home to the paradisiacal Cíes Islands.

But Galicia also offers an artistic heritage that nourishes the soul. Its attractions are of such value that some have been declared a "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO: the Camino de Santiago, the historic centre of Santiago de Compostela, the Roman Wall of Lugo, and the Tower of Hercules. The Ribeira Sacra will surely be added to this list in the near future. The area offers ancient vineyards, Romanesque churches, and Baroque monasteries between the canyons of the Sil and Miño rivers.

Galicia is unique, a stunning land. Yet, we often need to stop, take a breath, and take another look at everything around us. The extraordinary events that we have experienced over last year are an opportunity to turn our eyes towards Galicia to know better the land that is home to us all.

It is for this reason that Turismo de Galicia has decided to stage the exhibition “Galicia a un paso de ti” (Galicia just a step away), which will be open in the seven Galician cities throughout 2021. With it we want to encourage Galicians, and all those who visit us, to know and discover (or rediscover) the hundreds of sites and tourist attractions in this land. They will not all be there, it is simply impossible to gather them all in a single exhibition, but it will be a way to send the message that we have a whole world to discover just a short distance from our homes.

The first exhibition will take place in Santiago de Compostela and will be open to the public from 30 March to 15 May at the Afundación Headquarters on Rúa do Vilar from Monday to Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
