A MIÑA VIAXE
The pantallas are the stars of this Carnival. These ancestral figures go around the town banging two animal bladders together, dry and swollen like balloons, and impose their rule.
The one in Xinzo de Limia is also the longest carnival cycle in all of Spain, as it begins on Fareleiro Sunday (three weeks before Shrove Sunday) and ends with Piñata Sunday. Although on Entroido Sunday, the town comes alive with visitors from all over Galicia. The big day is Shrove Tuesday, when the parade of floats and troupes takes place, led by a large group of pantallas.
During these days, squares, bars and taverns all over the town are become one continuous revelry lead by the local youth, among brass bands, festivals and lavish meals.
