This is considered one of the most important gastronomic events in Galicia.
The Festa do Carneiro ao Espeto puts an end to the Moraña festivities. It takes place at the Carballeira de Santa Lucía oak grove. Here, about two hundred rams are roasted in the pampero style (open carcass cooked over a wood fire). No small servings are sold, but rather whole rams, so it is a gastronomic festival in which large groups of friends participate, after reserving a table (20-30 people) and a batch of food (a ram, two pork loin and cod empanadas, bread, a jug of local wine and coffee). But no one goes hungry, since all the restaurants in the municipality prepare this meat on those days in anticipation of the large crowd that comes to the festival.
The celebration has remote origins in the early 20th century, when an emigrant from a town in Argentina organized a countryside meal of ram cooked in the pampero style. But it was born as it is celebrated these days in 1969 at the initiative of a group of young people from the town. With such a long history, it is considered one of the most important gastronomic events in Galicia.
