Description

The first convent that the Order of the Barefoot Carmelites had in Galicia. Founded around the middle of the 18th century by Mother María Antonia de Jesús on lands belonging to the Counts of Priegue. Built in granite masonry, the exterior is very simple with straight lines, giving it a very solid appearance. All that stands out on the facade is the is the image of the Virgin of El Carmen housed in a niche, topped with a trinagular pediment. The church stands on a Latin-cross ground plan and the interior underscores the simplicity of the outside. The main retable, from the 19th century, is in Neo-Classical style; the side altars are dedicated to St. Theresa and St. John of the Cross.
