The museum occupies seven rooms in the 18th-century church of the Vilanova de Lourenzá monastery. It stands on the Conde Santo square. According to legend, this ?Holy Count?, Don Osorio Gutiérrez who was the founder of the San Salvador Monastery in 969 and made the pilgrimage to the Holy Land, acquired an extraordinary sarcophagus (5th C) in which to be buried. Every year, pilgrims flock to touch this sarcophagus in a popular pilgrims? festival, the ?Romería de Conde Santo?. Another highlight of this museum is the reliquary in the Sacristy, made of multi-colored wood, containing a collection of 28 reliquary busts from the late 17th century. There are also pieces of jewelry, sculpture, paintings, clothing, furniture and the monks? library.
