Description

The annual Festa do Percebe de Aguiño (Aguiño Goose barnacle Festival), in Ribeira, takes place on the last Sunday in July. It was first held in this traditional fishing village in 1997. The fame of Aguiño “percebe” barnacles lies in the quality of the produce and the finest examples are to be found on the rocks most exposed to crashing waves, on dangerous rocky shorelines and hard to reach cliffs. This is the biggest food fair in the municipality and that honour recognises the work that goes into collecting the goose barnacles,
which is a unique trade. The quality of the waters that break on the rocks where they grow make the Aguiño goose barnacles a unique, charismatic product and one of the typical dishes in the diet of Galicia’s Atlantic
coast.
A wide range of activities are held alongside the festival such as fishing workshops aimed at children, sessions for adults and children where dishes are prepared in front of them, play areas, Galician bagpipe bands and traditional music, dances, concerts...
