Located a small distance from the population centre is Cape O Roncudo. It takes its name from the roaring sound of the waves as they crash against the rocks (roncar = to roar). For the vessels that pass through these treacherous waters, negotiating the channel round this promontory is a risky business, despite the presence of a guiding lighthouse. The barnacles found off these cliffs are rightfully renowned world-wide for their flavour and size. Their collection is strictly regulated to prevent exhausting this resource which provides a living for many families in the region.
