Description

The Ría de Foz is nothing more than a small brushstroke of sea drawn on the coastal plain.
However, the large beaches that surround it make it an exceptional place. Foz, like many other towns in the north of the peninsula, finds its roots in the medieval centuries although, in recent years it has experienced strong economic growth. An inshore fishing port, it is one of the most significant capitals of A Mariña. A commercial and administrative centre, in the summer it becomes a prime tourist centre.
Nearby in San Martiño de Mondoñedo is the basilica, today the parish church, of great artistic interest. Founded in the 10th century, it was built through the 11th to the 14th centuries, and was the first cathedral of the Dumio bishopric.
