Description

With an irregular ground plan, it is bounded by the facade of the monastery of San Martín Pinario, the Archbishop´ s Palace, the arch of the descent towards Praza do Obradoiro and the facade of the Acibechería of the cathedral. In the place of the Romanesque front, the centre of the medieval merchants, the new North facade was erected in the 18th century, begun by Ferro Caaveiro and Fernández Sarela and continued by Monteagudo. The name Acibechería, which is also the name of the street which ends in the square, has its origin in the workshops where jet was worked. Since the 13th century Santiago had a monopoly in the production of articles made from this material.
