Description

One of the most international products of Ourense cuisine is the bread of Cea, which is made using an ancient recipe in artisan ovens throughout the town. As is common in Galicia, it has its own festival to celebrate it, held on the first Sunday of July.

The festivities begin on Saturday afternoon, with different workshops on the process of making the bread or tapas that use Cea bread as their main ingredient.

The Campo da Saleta, where tambourine players, charanga bands, and bagpipers play, is the setting for the Festa do Pan de Cea on Sunday. Events include the opening speech and traditional and official lunches, where all kinds of products with a Galician designation of origin are served alongside each other; from wines and cheeses to pork, honey, veal, liquors, liqueurs, potatoes, and organic farming products. The stands of artisans and traders of sweets, vegetable products, dairy products, oils, and beverages attract a constant stream of people, and the bakers make and sell tons of the much-loved bread.

In the afternoon, dancing, musical performances, and a free bread, chorizo, and wine tasting round off the festival.

Highlight: Bread making workshops.
