The thunderous sound of the folión, accompanied with drums and kettle drums, bells and metal farming tools, fills the town of Manzaneda during this unique carnival, which in this town is accompanied by its traditional character: the mázcara.
The folións of Manzaneda are spectacular for their measured and uninterrupted rhythm and the elegance as well as colour of their mázcaras, with their characteristic hats set with coloured ribbons and their jumps and archaic dances. The great folión takes place on Shrove Tuesday, it is the local festival when the folións from all the parishes gather in the town, making an incredible racket. It always ends with a popular pork-based meal: sausages, pig's tail..., the typical Galician dishes of this time of the year.
