In the municipality of Bueu, the celebration of the Corpus Christi dates back to the 17th century. From the oldest documentation found in the parish -books of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sacrament from 1740- it can be deduced that it existed even further back.
All this time, the procession takes place after mass, that has evolved greatly, both in its itinerary and in the elements used in it. At first, the Holy Sacrament was limited to the church, where there were rounds of adoration by the parishioners. Later, this was extended with a procession around the atrium of the church, and later, to the nearby areas.
However, and despite its age, the peak of this tradition can be dated between the 1940s and 1950s, once the Ramón Bares road was paved. One of the customs that the residents of the town remembers the most are the traditional floats that paraded in the procession and that were prepared in the old carpentry shop of the Massó factory, which stopped at the beginning of the '70s with the closure of the cannery.
In 2015, the Bueu Corpus Carpets Association was born, a group that managed to revitalize the tradition of carpets in the town, changing some things so that the route was more central and visual, and that it attracted more visitors. To this day, the floral tapestries cover a total of 1.5 kilometres of the streets.
