Manor Houses in Galicia...

Granaries, Manor Houses and Stone

Manor Houses...

Lordliness and refinement brought together with the austerity that is typical of the rural world.  That is what life was like in the pazos, the large houses belonging to Galicia's nobility and built mainly between the 17th and 19th centuries.  They are elegant buildings with a story to tell, and many have magnificent gardens that are worth visiting.

For example, the Pazo de Oca, where among ponds, box shrubs, staircases and hydrangeas is Europe's tallest camellia tree. Or the Pazo de Mariñán and its French garden by the sea. Or the Pazo de Santa Cruz de Ribadulla and its 200 varieties of camellias. Rubiáns, Lourizán, Quiñones de León, Quinteiro da Cruz, A Saleta, Fefiñáns...

Galicia's manor houses, lordly labyrinths of stone and flowers where time reveals itself in all its magnificence.
