Wine drinking along the Vía de la Plata (Silver Way)

We propose a unique pilgrimage that combines the enchanting Galician landscapes of the Vía de la Plata (Silver Way) with the wine growing wealth of the lands that it crosses. Pazos, towers, fortresses, monasteries and churches will come out to meet us, but also wineries with up to three of the five denominations of origin that exist in Galicia and where we can discover and taste the wines they produce.

Full program

We will walk along the Vía de la Plata, tasting the wines with denomination of origin Monterrei, O Ribeiro and Rías Baixas; and enjoy the relaxing thermal waters of Ourense.
  • Day 1The starting point is either Verín or Ourense (depending on the number of persons in the group), crossroads of pilgrims ways and port of call for pilgrims coming from Portugal. Lodging is in Verín or Ourense.
  • Day 2After breakfast we set off from Verín for the first stage of our walk along the Vía de la Plata (Silver Way), where we will be passing through villages in the town council of Monterrei, to admire its Medieval fortress. We will reach the town council of Xinzo de Limia, from where we will walk the last 10 km of the stage Verín-Xinzo de Limia. Lunch along the way. In the afternoon the world of wine will be our goal, for we will be visiting the wineries of Tapias Mariñán and the Vía Arxéntea, for wine tasting sessions.
  • Day 3After breakfast we will walk the final stretch of the stage “Xinzo de Limia – Augas Santas”, until we reach the beautiful farmhouse in the parish of Santa Mariña, surrounded by an ethnographic ensemble consisting of ancient fortifications, petroglyphs and Roman ruins. We will then enjoy a tasty menu in Allaríz, whose urban ensemble underwent a major remodelling during the nineties and is one of Galicia's best preserved architectural towns. In the afternoon the minibus will take us to Ourense, where after a brief tour of the city we will go to the spa Balneario de Laias for a spa circuit that will allow us to recover our strength. Dinner and lodging at the spa Balneario de Laias.
  • Day 4After breakfast we will travel to San Paio de Bóveda, to walk the first 10 Km of the stage “San Paio de Bóveda – Carballeda”. Upon our return to the Balneario de Laias we will move on to Ribadavia for lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the wineries Bodegas Pazo Casanova and Viña Meín where we will taste their wines. Dinner and lodging at Balneario de Laias.
  • Día 5After breakfast, from A Xesta we will walk the final 10 km of the stage Carballeda – Bendoiro, ending at a country guesthouse in the area to enjoy a typical Galician lunch in a rural environment. After lunch we will visit the winery that includes a tasting session of Castro Brey Albariño wine. We will then move on to Santiago, where in the afternoon we will take a guided tour of the old quarter with an official guide. Dinner and lodging at a 4-star hotel in Santiago.
  • Day 6After a hearty breakfast we will drive to Lestedo to walk the final 15 Km of the Vía de la Plata, reaching Santiago at around 12.00 noon to attend the pilgrim's mass in the Cathedral. We will enjoy a typical meal at a restaurant in the old quarter and in the afternoon we will go on a spectacular visit that Santiago has to offer: the rooftop of the Cathedral.
