Venture into one of the most spectacular routes in the world as you walk nearly 200 km connecting the fishing villages of Malpica and Fisterra. Along the way, you’ll witness dramatic cliffs with impossible shapes, nearly deserted coves, and the constant bustle of fishermen and percebeiros (goose barnacle harvesters) in each coastal town. But be warned: this is not a route for beginners. Here, the ocean and the rock are in command, and the 8 stages along the infamous Costa da Morte will be a true challenge.

Full program

Day 1. Welcome to the Camiño dos Faros (way of the lighthouses)

Welcome to Malpica de Bergantiños, the starting point of the Lighthouse Way. A typically seafaring town, this is where your first contact with the trail begins, so make sure to wander through its streets.

🛏️ Standard accommodation: Hotel Fonte do Fraile or similar

Day 2. Stage Malpica – Niñóns

Distance: 21.3 km | Difficulty: ●●●○○ | Accommodation: Malpica

The adventure on this Lighthouse Way along the Costa da Morte begins in Malpica, heading away from the town toward the smallest of the beacons that give this trail its name: the Punta Nariga lighthouse. The first stage takes us out of Malpica (though we’ll return at the end of the day) along a path with constant elevation changes, always hugging the ocean. Quiet, almost deserted beaches hidden in unexpected coves, the Sisargas Islands in the distance, and the striking lighthouse and sculpture of the Atlante at Punta Nariga will lead us to Niñóns Beach, where this spectacular first stage ends.
Private transfer back to Malpica for accommodation.

🛏️ Standard accommodation: Hotel Fonte do Fraile or similar

Day 3. Stage Niñóns – Ponteceso

Distance: 27.1 km | Difficulty: ●●●●○ | Accommodation: Ponteceso

The second stage of this Lighthouse Way takes us through a great variety of landscapes, from Niñóns—where we ended the previous day—to Ponteceso. A technically challenging day awaits, perfect for more experienced hikers, with each step rewarded by the stunning cliffs of Roncudo, the peaceful inner stretch of the Corme-Laxe estuary, Monte da Facha, the mouth of the Anllóns River, and the dunes of A Barra. The Roncudo lighthouse and the dramatic setting where percebeiros battle the elements daily make this stage a truly unique journey.

🛏️ Standard accommodation: Pensión Teyma or similar

Day 4. Stage Ponteceso - Laxe

Distance: 25.3 km | Difficulty: ●●●○○ | Accommodation: Laxe

The third stage of our journey begins at the mouth of the Anllóns River, taking us into a more sheltered area of coastline that has been inhabited for millennia, as evidenced by the prehistoric remains of Borneiro and Dombate. To balance the effort of the previous day, the route is much more peaceful, with the only major challenge being the climb to Monte Castelo de Lourido (312 m above sea level), the highest point of the Lighthouse Way and a fantastic viewpoint. The descent brings us back to the estuary and along the imposing Cabana coast, full of sea caves (furnas) and small beaches where time seems to stand still. Further on lies Punta do Cabalo, and after passing it, Laxe—the end of this stage.

🛏️ Standard accommodation: Hotel Vida Mar de Laxe or similar

Day 5. Stage Laxe - Camelle

Distance: 18.0 km | Difficulty: ●●○○○ | Accommodation: Camelle

We’re now approaching the halfway point of this Lighthouse Way along the Costa da Morte, and we mark the moment with a peaceful and shorter stage that continues the relaxed pace of the previous day. We leave Laxe heading toward the famous Praia dos Cristais, following a route that takes us across Monte Insua to the Laxe lighthouse, then along the Peñón de Soesto to Traba Beach and its vibrant lagoon. The final stretch follows a spectacular rocky coastline to Camelle, where this fantastic stage comes to an end.

🛏️ Standard accommodation: O Refuxio do Náufrago or similar

Day 6. Stage Camelle - Camariñas

Distance: 23.8 km | Difficulty: ●●○○○ | Accommodation: Camariñas

In this fifth stage, we’ll walk the stretch where it all began: the coastline connecting Camelle and Cape Vilán, whose long history of shipwrecks gave the Costa da Morte its name. The trail, easy to follow, takes us to the so-called English Cemetery, a place that invites reflection on the names we give to places. Soon after, we reach the Cabo Vilán lighthouse—a key landmark in the geography we’ll cover on this Lighthouse Way. The stage ends by following the Arco do Vilán to Camariñas, entering the estuary that shares its name.

🛏️ Standard accommodation: Hotel Devalar do Mar or similar

Day 7. Stage Camariñas - Muxía

Distance: 32.6 km | Difficulty: ●●○○○ | Accommodation: Muxía

The longest stage of the Lighthouse Way arrives on this seventh day of adventure. In return, it is almost entirely flat, allowing us to make steady progress while taking more time to enjoy the landscape. The goal for the day is to walk around the Camariñas estuary, passing through its gentle scenery and peaceful small villages. After crossing the mouth of the Río Grande and the stunning beach of O Lago, we reach Muxía and its imposing Sanctuary of A Barca, a site linked to the Camino de Santiago and with a long tradition of welcoming pilgrims and walkers.

🛏️ Standard accommodation: A de Loló or similar

Day 8. Stage Muxía - Lires

Distance: 25.3 km | Difficulty: ●●●○○ | Accommodation: Lires

We begin the seventh stage of this Lighthouse Way by returning to a technically more demanding route—one that takes us along the rugged Touriñán coastline to the lighthouse of the same name, located at the westernmost point of Galicia. The first stretch, up to Moreira Beach, will test our abilities with a challenging path where every step is well worth the effort. From there, the second half of the stage becomes noticeably gentler. Following the trail, we’ll reach the Touriñán Lighthouse and, beyond it, Nemiña Beach—a true natural paradise where this stage concludes.
Private transfer to Lires for accommodation.

🛏️ Standard accommodation: LiresCa or similar

Day 9. Stage Lires - Fisterra

Distance: 26.9 km | Difficulty: ●●●○○ | Accommodation: Fisterra

Final stage of the Lighthouse Way, ending at the eternal Cape Fisterra. Beaches and cliffs follow one another, highlighting landmarks such as the majestic Rostro Beach, Cape da Nave, and Mar de Fóra Beach, before beginning the final climb to Monte Facho—the last effort before reaching, after its summit, the iconic Fisterra Lighthouse. Here, lighthouse walkers blend with pilgrims arriving from Compostela, and watching the sun sink into the Atlantic becomes the perfect closing scene for this magnificent journey of nearly 200 kilometers.

🛏️ Standard accommodation: Sempre Fisterra or similar
