Natural Park Monte Aloia

Near Tui and integrated into the Serra do Galiñeiro, Monte Aloia is about 10 kilometres of paths in a unique landscape. It is the result of an exotic afforestation done 100 years ago with cypresses, firs and Lebanese cedars.

Declared a Natural Park in 1978 – the first in Galicia – Mount Aloia is a true watchtower at 700 metres above sea level, with five balconies and stunning views over the River Miño. In the mountains there are prehistoric and Roman remains and their history is surrounded by legends. It is said that here, the wild mares are fertilised by the wind. Also that this is the mythical Monte Medulio, scene of collective suicide of the Celtic tribes rather than falling into the hands of the Romans. Perhaps.

Today, Monte Aloia is a symphony of colour in the heights that changes with each season: the yellow of the yew and broom, the white of the rock rose, the lilac of the heather...
