Estuary "Ría de Viveiro"

In the middle of the Cantabrian Sea, the sea blends with the mouth of the río Landro and forms the Viveiro estuary. The estuary is sprinkled with beautiful coves and beaches such as Area or Covas (which measures 1.5 km), many awarded with the Blue Flag. The estuary is also very appropriate for scuba diving, because in addition to unique marine fauna and flora, in Viveiro's estuary there are more than 30 sunken ships, some of which are the remains of a terrible naval battle which took place during the War of Independence.

Of medieval origin, the city of Viveiro preserves its elegant old quarter, one of Galicia's most important, with the doorway known as the Porta de Carlos V, a national monument and also known as "A Maior"(main). Close by, in the port of Celeiro, which specialises in fresh fish, a fish market and auction are held, both offering a true spectacle when seen live.

And don't miss a visit to the forest, the Souto da Retorta en Chavín, to admire "O Avó" (The Grandfather), which, with its 126 years of age and measuring 70 meters, is Europe's tallest eucalyptus tree.
