Description

The fishing village of Laxe is proof that the Costa da Morte is not just rocky cliffs and rugged promontories, and that the region also has some beautiful spots where one can relax and enjoy the sea breeze and the rumour of the waves. One such place is Laxe beach, which extends over almost two kilometres.
Whilst walking through the streets of Laxe, we will take a look at the Casa do Arco (House of the Arch), a construction that joins two buildings where one can see the coats of arms of Galicia and the Moscoso family, as well as several 15th- and 16th-century inscriptions.
Within the artistic heritage of this municipality, the parish church of Santiago de Traba is also worth mentioning. It was constructed between the 13th and 18th centuries, and harmonises Romanesque elements, such as the rectangular nave and the back wall window, with other Baroque features, such as the main altarpiece and the façade. On the latter one can see the figures of St. James and the Holy Virgin. Saint Peter, Saint Francis, and Adam and Eve are represented on the side walls.
A few metres from the population centre, on a gently sloped mount, lies the Shrine to Saint Rosa of Lima, where a renowned pilgrimage takes place every 30th of August.
