Description

The symbol of the city and a deeply embedded myth is that the city was founded by Teucer, the Greek archer, following the Trojan war when he travelled to the west to found the town. Nevertheless, the Burgo bridge over the Lerez river was built by the Romans, who also established the Turoqua mansion on road XIX. As a result, the road and the bridge are the origins of the foundation of the city. The city is first mentioned under its current name during the 12th century, during the reign of Fernando II. The bridge consists of eleven low semicircular arches constructed from mediaeval masonry. It has been heavily modified by subsequent expansion.
