Parish: Melón (Santa María)
Place: Cima de Vila
Melón - Ourense
The A Cortella water channel is a tributary of the Cerves river that flows down from the Ser-ra do Faro de Avión, over a drop of more than 100 metres in a narrow rocky canyon. The river descends to successive waterfalls and pools, some of which are more than 15 metres high.
To see them we must follow the N-120 that goes from Melón to Ourense and, just after pass-ing the bridge over the A-52 motorway, we will find a small asphalted trail that goes up the mountain on a very steep slope. The trail is 400m long and ends at Cima de Vila, where we will leave the car to cross the village on foot until we reach a fork where we will follow the left path that goes towards the river. After about 500m, we will be able to see the waterfalls in front of us, albeit in the distance.
