Parish: Pazos de Arenteiro (San Salvador)
Boborás - Ourense
The river Avia starts in the Serra do Suído and joins the river Arenteiro, which collects the waters of the Serra do Faro. Eighty metres downstream are the remains of a medieval bridge, known as Ponte da Cruz, which may have been almost 30m long and of which only one of the three arches it would have had remains. The starlings were reconstructed more recently and wooden footbridges were installed to join the bases to cross the river.
Once we have crossed the bridge, we will turn left and start to go up the river Arenteiro, sur-rounded by an authentic riverside forest, which creates several waterfalls and a multitude of rapids in this area.
In 1998, the path was restored and wooden footbridges were built where the path was steeper. Once at the Pozo dos Fumes we will be able to see the main waterfall, which is formed when the river is squeezed between two large rocks.
The name Pozo dos Fumes refers to the water vapour that is generated as a result of the high pressure with which the water descends.
