Description

A Fiesta de la Langosta (Lobster Festival) has been held continuously since 1991, and since 2000 it has also included a sample of the local gastronomy with new shellfish and molluscs, which is why it was renamed the La Guarda Lobster and Seafood Festival.
La Guarda's gastronomy enjoys considerable recognition thanks to the extraordinary quality of its products and, especially, its lobster; a migratory species that lives in the rocky bottoms of the Atlantic coast. In the 19th century, several shellfish farms (cetarias) were built in A Guarda that could only be accessed at low tide in order to store live crustaceans, especially lobsters, lubrigantes (Galician lobster), brown crabs, velvet crabs, spider crabs and even shrimp.
The festival has a popular and participatory character and is enlivened by a craft fair with Galician artisans.
The main activities are food tasting, musical and theatrical performances and guided tours of the recently created Ruta de las Cetarias, the Shellfish Farm Route.
