Description

Building with 16th-century construction features, possibly the house of King Pedro 1st, although it is also associated with Fernando de Castro, this king´s representative in Galicia. It underwent major alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries, so it is hard to establish which parts date from the medieval period. It would have been part of a larger construction, occupying all one side of Rúa de San Miguel, with two towers at each end. One of them would be the present-day "Casa Gótica". The facade, in granite masonry, has a doorway on the lower part and a window with pointed arches. The upper part, separated by a cornice, has a geminate window with horse-shoe arches, below a decorated semi-circular arch. The roof is supported by decorated corbels. In the decade of the 50s, in view of its ruinous condition, it was restored, remodelling the facade, the roof and the Baroque stairway inside. In 1974, it was extended with the construction of an interior patio garden. It has been the Pilgrimage Museum since 1951.
