Description

The Danzas Ancestrais de Cangas include the dances of San Cibrán de Aldán, San Roque do Hío and the dance and counter-dance of Darbo.  These three are particularly unique among the many dances in the Morrazo region.

With several centuries of history, the 'Danza de San Roque' (San Roque dance) is held in front of the famous cross of O Hío, carved from a single piece. Around twenty men take part, divided into three rows. One row takes on the role of ladies and the other two take on the role of the leading men. The particularity of the staging is the costumes of the dancers: while the leading men wear white, with felt hats and black ties, the ladies wear an interesting uniform, very similar to the traditional dress of those who make the pilgrimage to Compostela. This is why the dance is also known as the "Pilgrims' Dance".

Highlight: The particular clothing of the dancers.
