It is located in Santo Antón Castle, a fort built in A Coruña Bay in the 16th century on what was once an islet. Connected to the mainland in 20th century, it became a provincial archaeological museum, on the city’s new seafront. As well as installations of the old fort and some arms for its defence, you can see archaeological pieces of great value that span different historical periods, from the Palaeolithic to the Roman period, including the Castro culture. We can highlight the proto-historic jewellery section, which includes the famous “casco de Leiro”, some torques and earrings. On the top floor, there are pieces related to the city’s main historical events.
