The Museum was created in 1969, as the result of the schoolteacher Don Francisco Rivera Casás?s passion for collecting objects related to the sea. In 1994, the inside of the building was refurbished and the collection was rearranged in permanent exhibition rooms. From then on, the Museum has been managed by the San Cibrao ?Cruz da Venta? Residents? Association. From the beginning, the Museum?s intention was to reflect the seafaring life of the Lugo coast, displaying its wealth of biological and ethnographic variety. Its wide collection ranges from ethnography (traditional boats, the arts of fishing), biology (whalebones, skeletons of marine mammals, dried fish, shells, crustaceans); sailing implements, nautical maps, steam engines, anchors, cannon, etc.
