Description

On the first weekend of June, Bande celebrates the Fiesta del Pescado (the Fish Festival), which is now over 40 years old, with the intention of promoting gastronomic excellence, as well as promoting the tourist potential of the area with a fishing contest.
Its birth came at the initiative of a group of friends who shared their passion for fishing and decided to organize a contest that is repeated year after year to this day. Its roots have survived the passage of time, and today it is one of the oldest in Ourense.
The number of fishermen who attend this annual event is increasing, as is the number of places they come from.  To carry out the contest, the Bande City Council counts on the collaboration of the Galician Fishing Federation every year, which is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the event, carrying out the weighing and awarding trophies. In the contest only bogue and Northern Iberian chub may be caught.
In addition to the championship, the festival has workshops, brass bands, musical performances, craft and antique markets, a horse trail and tasting of different fish recipes, not forgetting sweets, wine, cornbread and other typical Bande and La Baixa Limia dishes. Over the three days over 4,000 pieces of fish are enjoyed in the Plaza de la Constitución.
One of the latest additions to the party is the tasting of a fish-shaped pie over 15 metres long. Bande harmoniously combines gastronomic, cultural, sports and environmental aspects with this event.
