Description

In the 18th century, octopus fishing was one of the most important activities in the port of Mugardos, then also one of the first in Galicia. Octopus is its most typical product and here it is prepared in the traditional Mugarda style, distinguished by its sauce made with onion, green pepper and red pepper.
Within the programme of the Festas do Carme, Mugardos pays tribute to the octopus and celebrates a gastronomic party at the seafront. Every year, more than two hundred volunteers from different cultural associations in town serve around 1,200 kilos of cephalopod in 3,000 portions, in a festive atmosphere dominated by the music of the charangas.

Highlight:
The traditional pottery plates and wine cups, with the inscription of the festival, in which the octopus portions are served.
