Description

Another speciality of the Galician vegetable garden, the white pepper of Oímbra (Ourense), also has its gastronomic praise and its recognition as a festival of Galician tourist interest. A popular meal in the Carballeira, on the first Sunday in August, is the star event in the promotion of the white pepper. In recent years it has been conquering the Galician markets and is a sign of identity of this town in the Verín-Viana area. The festival has been held since 1997 and attracts around 4,000 people every year.
Although the main attraction of the fair is the time of the meal, when locals and visitors alike taste white peppers, meat, empanada or octopus, the atmosphere is lively from the early hours, with competitions of dishes made with white peppers; free tastings of peppers; exhibitors selling artisan products, farm produce and agricultural tools; folkloric performances; and even inflatables for children.

Highlight: Popular lunch in the marquee set up in the Carballeira.
