Since 1974, salmon is promoted in A Estrada on the third weekend of May.

Sunday is the big day of this festival, as this is the day when the popular tasting is held, allowing locals and visitors to enjoy the culinary proposals designed by local restaurateurs at affordable prices. Every year, associations, bakeries and restaurants present innovative delicacies made with salmon as the main ingredient.

In addition to this, during the previous week, various activities are held to celebrate salmon, such as the International Fishing Competition or the Tapas Competition, in which the restaurants of the town actively participate. More than twenty establishments prepare salmon delicacies, which are judged by the public and by a jury of experts.

Every year, the Salmon Festival also has an exceptional town crier who exalts the qualities of the most highly valued product in the three salmon fishing grounds in the Ulla. The prize-giving of the Salmones de Oro Awards, by the Centro de Iniciativas Turísticas (Centre for Tourist Initiatives), and the International Fishing Competition Awards are other important events of the festival. It also has a programme of activities that includes concerts by musical bands, performances by folklore groups, theatrical performances and exhibitions. The many ways in which salmon can be prepared (breaded, marinated, pizza, stewed) delights all those who enjoy its unique flavour. The festival is not only the most important gastronomic event in A Estrada, but it is also an important source of tourism development.
