Route of the camellia in bloom

The Camellia, flower of the Rías Baixas

Camellias take centre stage on this route, which takes you to three gardens included in the European Route of Historic Gardens. Two of them have been awarded the International Camellia Excellence certification. Firstly, the Pazo Quinteiro da Cruz, an orchard in the heart of Salnés. Here, more than 5,000 camellias of over 1,500 varieties bloom, including the sinensis, from which they make their own tea, which you will be able to taste at the end of the visit. Next, we will visit Pazo de Lourizán, whose 54-hectare estate includes a wooded area where you will find both large native species and foreign species. The garden area is where the camellias are concentrated, which you will find in full bloom.

In the afternoon, after lunch (not included) in Pontevedra, we will travel to Vilagarcía to visit the Pazo de Rubiáns, whose gardens date back to the 17th century and which now feature magnolias, cryptomerias and araucarias. It has more than 800 varieties of camellias and an Albariño vineyard, whose wine you will taste at the end of the visit. From here, we will return by train to Santiago de Compostela.

Free time for lunch: Pontevedra (approx. 2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
