Description

This waterfall, which forms the natural boundary of the parish of San Cristovo de Domodán in Arzúa and the parish of Santa María de Turces in Touro, is known traditionally as the fervenza das Hortas (Orchards), taking its name from the place where it stands.

It is also known as the fervenza de Santa Marta due to a legend linking it to this saint. It is said that a young women who used to use the mill at the site fell pregnant by her boyfriend, who tried to kill her when he found out by throwing her off the top of the waterfall. As she fell, she shouted out “Santa Marta help me!” and an oak tree then softened her fall and saved her life.

The easiest and quickest way to get there is from As Hortas. From there, walk 400 metres down a clear, easy path leading to the foot of the waterfall that plunges from a height of roughly 20 metres.
