In the centre of Caldas de Reis you can find a
botanic garden, which dates from the 19th century and has been listed as a Site
of Cultural Interest since 1962. This is the starting point for this trail
leading to the Segade waterfall, on the River Umia.
After walking for roughly 1km you come
to a bridge on the right. Continue
past it along the dirt track. You will pass by several water mills and reach
the ruins of the old Fábrica de la Luz (power plant), which was built in 1900
and was active for more than 50 years, supplying electricity to the whole
region until the 1920s.
Next to it is the most highly
anticipated part of the trail: the waterfall. At a height of 30 metres, it
plunges down creating several natural pools that are deep enough to go for a
dip. These make it a great place for leisure activities that is very popular
with locals and visitors alike when the weather is good.
