Description

Behind the hermitage of Santa Locaia (in Chacín, in the municipality of Mazaricos), to the right of the road, we will find this waterfall. It is highly recommended to be visited during the autumn, due to the orange colours typical of this season. The hermitage gives its name to the waterfall, located in the "Pozo de las Campanas" (Pool of the Bells). According to popular legend, robbers stole the bell from the chapel. As they fled, they tried to cross the river by jumping from one bank to the other with the bell on their backs. The moss made them slip and the bell fell into the water, causing the ground to sink down and giving origin to the waterfall. The Santa Baia river is fed by the Vao da Denonciña stream, which flows through a very narrow valley. This waterfall is also called Cascada de Santa Locaia do Burato (of the hole). It has two waterfalls that drop from a height of about 6 m. The access is not signposted.
