Description

The Festa do Botelo has been held continuously since 2001, and has the uniqueness of being, at present, one of the few held in Galicia to honour this unique, distinctive and authentic sausage from the Valdeorras region. Every year, this festival brings together more than nine hundred people for a group meal where you can sample the botelo, accompanied by cachelos with cabbage and sausages, a glass of red wine from O Barco, as well as an after-meal of torta de chicharrones, a kind of flat cake made with pork fat and pork crackling.
The Botelo is a sausage which uses the animal's stomach as a casing. It also has other names such as butelo or bitelo. Despite the obvious proximity, the O Barco de Valdeorras botela  is not exactly the same as its relative from Berciano, which would more commonly be the known in this region as pigureiro.
Prior to the meal, a cultural event is held in which an opening speech is read by a representative from the world of communication, culture, business or politics. In that same event, an Honourable Mention is awarded, a distinction that was created at the fourth Festa do Botelo to recognise the work of people and institutions in favour of the development, promotion and dissemination of local gastronomy and products of excellence on which it is based.
The cultural value is manifested in the different activities that are carried out as a cultural act in which the proclamation is read.
